Aster Manor Cushion

Its stinking hot here and Pat & I are out in the back part of the house. Cats are not happy that they aren't allowed up through the house.

To keep myself amused I thought I'd start the Surrounded by Stars cushion. This has been a real challenge from all angles. All the fabric was cut up yesterday.

The challenges were interesting and frustrating a couple of times.

First off a couple of the templates had the wrong letters on them. The letters were mixed up, thank goodness for photos to compare. So it took me a while to work this out and remember this when cutting the fabric.

Also I needed to remember what fabric colours I had picked until I labeled the bags each fabric was kept in. That was a bit confusing as my brain keep remembering the colours in the photos.

I love Moda (not that you'd know...lol) and Aster Manor is just so pretty. There is a cushion (not for sale and I can't get a pattern either) down at Hettie's Patch and its to die for. No joke..... it is just so beautiful and it's made with Aster Manor.

I wanted a cushion made with Aster Manor too. I love stars and so I thought I'd see how clever I am.

Pretty clever in my books wink as I am only just starting to get serious with piecing lots of fabric together and using more colours. Looking at this being the next stage in my journey.

Took the above photo and sent it to my sister and I spotted a mistake as the email was winging its way to Deb's computer.

Should I tell you? Or should I not?

Yeah I'll tell you as I'm not going to fix it.

Two of the blocks against the centre diamond are the wrong way round. eek Should be all gray with red flower fabric facing the centre diamond.

So I need to remember to check and recheck before piecing the next block and make sure its okay.

Next stage is making the back and putting the cushion together. But I'll leave that to another day.

I will be redrawing the give away tomorrow, due to Highland Monkey's not contacting me. If you enter a giveaway, it helps to come back and see if you win.

HUGGLES From The UK

Look what arrived yesterday all the way from the UK.

Jane from the UK had emailed me about a couple of little friends, she wanted to send across for the HUGGLES Flood Relief Appeal.

How beautiful is Jane for sending them all that way? Must say the first thing I thought when I saw the big teddy was "Mr. Bean's teddy" ......lol

Thank you so much Jane, your a very lovely lady for sending them to me. They'll make a couple of kids very happy.

On another note, those puppies are being so good in the sewing room. Did you notice they don't have faces? I'm going to make up little tags for them, asking their new owners to draw a face on their little puppy.

I thought, the children could give the puppies the face they want. Be it with fangs or a happy smile.

Puppies To HUGGLE

Look what arrived about 30 mins ago mrgreen

Fifteen little puppies for children to HUGGLE. These came from Trish and I have to say they are all just so cute. Also they feel like they are just busting to have a little HUGGLE from someone.

I love the colours you used Trish and they are a great size for little hands to hold.

They have all been out for a toilet break and are now napping in my sewing room. I wonder if they'll need a walk later this evening and will they bark all night? eek wink

Thanks Trish for taking time to make these beautiful cute little softies.

Hexi flower swap

Just finished making this flower hexi for Mommaduck. I love this swap and I have a lovely collection coming together. Thinking a quilt down the track would be nice.

Today I am just pottering around in my sewing room. My head isn't being kind to me as for the first time in months I was having a lovely sleep last night, until.....

My cat Lucky who had hidden in my sewing room decided at 4 am, she wanted out of the room. So I was woken to scratching and the door banging..................... groan, took me ages to go back to sleep. I then woke with this thick head.

Well I have to make a move, before I fall asleep here in front of my laptop.

Also happy Australia Day to my Aussie readers, where ever you are.

Winners & Grinners

What an exciting morning at Dawn's place, lots of talking, stitching and a few cuppas thrown in for good measure.

Joy who was today knitting jumpers for little children in Africa, was kind enough to pull out a name for my give away.

And the crowd goes wild!!!! Congrats to you Highland Monkey's, you have until Saturday 6pm South Australian time to contact me. If I don't hear from you I'll pull another name out of the vase.

Thank you so much for leaving such lovely comments about my quilt. Your beautiful comments made me feel very special.

Heather is one of our stitching gurus ....well I think so. I have learnt so much from her and Janette another amazing stitchery guru, in the last 2 years.

Heather surprised me today with a donation of filling for my HUGGLES. What a great donation and thanks Heather. Some of the softies take hardly any fabric, but seem to swallow oodles of filling when stuffing them.

Also my forth block in the Life Is Beautiful quilt is finished. Next one I am going to do will have some needle turn in the block. Last thing I don't want to have is to leave all the needle turn ones to the end.

Hearts, Quilt & Give Away

I've been busy as a bee, sewing and having a lovely time. So much so, I'm having a give away to celebrate part of my exciting news.

But first things first.

Yesterday afternoon I cut and made 4 heart blocks for 2 ladies from our craft group. I'll take these over to Khris' tomorrow. I finished sewing the appliqued hearts on, at about 10.30 last night.

Today I decided was some me time with my sewing machine. Check out my first ever completed quilt top.

Its called Bennington and its from the Schnibbles time two book.

Bit of info on the quilt.

  • Fabric is Moda Luna Notte charm pack.
  • Finished quilt size 29 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches.

Okay now you get to read about my thoughts about how I feel at this very moment.

Firstly I am just so excited to think I have actually finished a quilt top. Its not a big one, just a lap quilt. Thought for a first quilt I'd start small and see how I enjoy it. I feel that the last 2 years of watching and asking questions and making countless small items has paid off.

I'm thinking each time I look at it... I did that...I picked out the fabric, cut all the fabric and sewed it together.

While I am writing all this I am eating the most divine local Adelaide cherries I have ever tasted. Like I said I am so excited.

Now next payday I'll see if I have enough pennies to go to Hettie's Patch (where I bought all the fabric) and see about a backing fabric. I know they have the inner boarder fabric, for backing there and I so hope its not all gone.

So for the time being it'll hang on the coat hanger and look absolutely fabulous.

Lookout tomorrow girls as I 'll have a awesome show and tell. Then I get to do it all again this coming Tuesday.

Okay, now the give away......

To celebrate my first awesome quilt top been completed..... I have a charm pack to give to one lucky reader. Keeping in mind its Valentine's Day soon, I thought this would be a great charm pack to win. Then you too can make an awesome "whatever" from this charm pack.

Now what do you have to do with go in the draw.......???

Not a lot really...

Leave me a comment. That is all...... you can blog about it (that would be cool if you did) and become a follower if you want (that would be even cooler), but it's still only 1 entry per person.

I'll get one of the Tuesday girls to draw a name out of a vase......and you'll have 5 days to contact me. If I don't hear from you...I'll draw another name out.

Okay cherries all gone and I have a quilt top to drool over......

I can't believe I have been involved in the hexi swap for 19 months now. Wow time flies when having fun.

In the mail today I received this beautiful hexi from Sandra, just love it.

This is the hexi I made for Kimba this month.

All 19 I have received from the amazing ladies involved in this swap. Lots of fun and I so hope this swap doesn't stop anytime soon.

Moda Birdie

I am sure as you read this, you can relate to what I am saying. mrgreen

There is nothing more exciting than looking at fabric on line. Oh okay, going to a fabric shop, touching and slobbering all over fabric, is fun too. Even more when you go with your best friend and throw a lunch in as well...lol

Seeing what is on special is what I love to do, when I have a few $$$$ to spend.

Once the order is placed and the email arrives to say its in the post, gets the blood pumping. You start counting down the days, waiting for it to arrive.

Then a knock at the door....yay its here.

These 9 fat 1/4's of Birdie by Moda arrived today, via the postman....yay. Oh I couldn't believe my luck when I saw the bundle being sold as cheap as what it was.

This weekend we'll find out if our first grandchild is a girl or a boy. If its a girl.........I'll have some fabric in my stash already. If its a boy..... hey I'll pull out my debit card again....lol

Just love the feel of the Moda fabric and the colours are just gawjus. I so love the little birds on the fabric...very cute.

HUGGLE Dolls Finished

Boy these 5 cute little dolls ate up my hours today...lol. I didn't mind one bit, as its going to a good cause.

I've now made 7 HUGGLES to be sent to children affected by the floods. I'm going to have a couple of days break to catch up on some other commitments and then back into some more softies...... thinking a few puppies and pigs might be needing a little 2 legged friend.

When I look at them all, I feel proud, that even though I am hundreds of kms away from those children who have lost so much. I am still going to help a child, by giving them a doll to HUGGLE.

Glitter Graphics

Thanks to all you amazing ladies who have emailed me with offers of HUGGLES for our appeal. I am so grateful for your help.

Two HUGGLES completed.

Yesterday I finished off 2 of the seven HUGGLES dolls I am making. We lost power for a while, so I spent that time out in the kitchen area cutting out another 5 dolls.

Last night I sewed all the body parts together and today I'll press and stuff, until I run out of hours.

These dolls are just so easy to make and are fun to put together.

She's call Maisie and she's from a Softies book I won.

Life Is Beautiful Block 3

This afternoon I just needed to sit and take some "time out" for myself. While I sat, I finished this block off.

I love the look of this block and am just so pleased with how neat my stitching is becoming. Now to pick out another block and start to prepare it for embroidering.

HUGGLES Started

Fridays I spend the day over at Khris' with some other amazing ladies, doing our crafts. Today was no different, I packed up my sewing machine and off I went.

Not looking like dolls yet, but next time you see them they'll be all sewing together. Hand sewing faces onto the felt is where I was up to when it was time to come home.

I'm making 7 dolls for little girls and I've had the cutest teddy bear pattern emailed to me today. No, I haven't forgotten about little boys, I have ideas for them as well.

If you can get to one of these collection points listed on this website, by the dates allocated.... you can drop your HUGGLES off to them.

I'm looking at sending any I make or that you make and send to me, mid next month. This will give time for people to make and post them.

Thoughts

With the TV going in the background and the Eastern states in my thoughts, I have been stitching.

It's ironic that my life goes on with not a lot of change (how could someone not change after seeing the reports on TV) and I am listening to the softness of welcome rain on our roof, while my fellow country people suffer and loose so much, if not the ultimate price.

Last night I finished the first of Dawn & Vicki's BOM. I'm using a honey bun roll of Crazy 8's that I won last year.

Love how it all came together and the brightness of the block.

I won this book just after I started sewing back in 2008, now its time to step up to the plate and make a HUGGLE from this book. I've picked out a few from there and in a minute I am about to start cutting out fabric.

Tomorrow is sewing at Khris' place and I am hoping to be able to take what ever I get cut out today, over there and continue making them.

Already I have had positive feedback and quilters offering to make some softies for our HUGGLE drive. For this I thank you so very much.

HUGGLES For Queensland

I've just come from watching even more devastating reports and footage of the floods up in Queensland.

Already I have read about The Gumtree Designers starting their flood appeal for helping quilters start over. I've added their button under my HUGGLES button on the right.

Jenny is also auctioning two of her original handmade quilts.

I'm going to do my bit as well and make some softies for the children to HUGGLE. I'm asking anyone who would like to join to please do so.

I'm looking for hand made softies, be they sewed or knitted the choice is yours.

Even if its only 1 or two, they will be so welcomed here. Once it settles down in the flood ravaged state, I'll make arrangements for them to be shipped to an organization like The Salvo's or through my church, with Saint Vincent De Paul's.

I can not put into words how the footage of flooding and the losses people are feeling, has affected me, it's so surreal. So I am going to show it with action.

Please feel free to take the button of Percy and post on your blogs about the HUGGLES for Queensland. I'm happy to forward my postal address, when your HUGGLES are ready to be posted.

God bless, the people, emergency workers and our country. May they stay safe, you are in my thoughts, prayers and heart.

Cushion Finished

Around October last year my sister Deb & I started our Breast of Friends quilt. Not having a lot of experience with stitchery at this stage, I wasn't happy with the results. As time went by I became more unhappy about the look of it.

So I started a new block and the first one hung on a coat hanger on the wall. Collecting dust and nagging me to do something with it.

Joining Wendy & Dawn's 2011 UFO Challenge has encouraged me to take it down off the wall and finish it.

Yesterday I made a back for the block and turned it into a cushion. For something different I decided to finish the sides with a binding look. I used fabric that matched the wing from the left dove.

Due to the blue water marker disappearing and my embroidery improving, I thought it was better to leave it as it is. I just know I would have unpicked all the old needle work, if I touched or added to it.

Very happy with the end result and the whole look of the cushion.

Back of the cushion has a zip, not centred as I didn't want it in the centre.

Okay so now I have another coat hanger free and another cushion for me to admire and use.

This cushion is for my chair in the lounge room, where I love to do my hand sewing and embroidery.

UFO Finished

My first UFO finished for the 2011 challenge.

I decided to practice my satin stitch using my machine. These tea towels were given to me half completed and have been sitting in my sewing room since sometime last year. So I guess they are a UFO of sorts.

Anyway all done and as time went by, I was getting better at the technique. The cup and saucer applique was the one I did last and it shows.

Breast Of Friends Block 5

Finally I have completed block 5 of the Breast of Friends quilt. I started this one back just after Amy & Ben were married. So from May of last year to this month, it's been hanging on its coat hanger waiting for some attention.

To be fair I was waiting on some cute little green heart buttons from Debbie. Her daughter Josephine dropped them off here the other day. You can see the buttons on the ladies collars.

I'm hoping the next block won't take as long, Debbie also had Josephine's wedding after Amy's. So this block has special memories for both me and for Deb.

The photo is now on the side bar and I'll see when Deb wants to start block 6. I know we were going to wait for the silly season to finish.
