Dream Tote Bag Update

Have you been wondering what I have been up too since my last post?

I have been busy with Amy & Ben's wedding, 5 weeks to go. Also I have been doing a bit of this and that in the sewing room.

Some of it is Secret Squirrel stuff, some not.

What I can show you is where I am up to with my dream bag. The applique side of it is now finished and today I popped the boarder around it.

Next to be done is the checkerboard sides. This means I need to cut 68 X 1.5 inch squares. eek I'm thinking Tuesday at Dawn's place seems like the right time to do this job.

Going to crack open another Moda pack of charm squares for the checkerboard part. Going to use the "Collection For A Cause, Legacy" by Moda. The colours in this charm pack are just what I am wanting for the next stage in the bag.

Until then I'll work on the "2nd Day of Christmas" Secret Squirrel present, so that can be dropped off in the box on Tuesday as well.

Round Robin Medallion 2010

Finally finished and ready to be posted if all goes well tomorrow. My round robin medallion for 2010.

This is the first year that I have joined this sort of swap. Last year I did the embroidery swap.

I won't see this again until December. Wonder what its going to look like?

Hoping to learn the following things with this year long swap.

  • New styles of sewing corners.
  • Matching colours that I may not, myself use.
  • Learning to read and listen to what the person who owns the medallion for that month, I am working on.
  • To enjoy myself.
All that is left to do now if fill out my journal and pop it into the post.

This is exciting stuff. mrgreen

Breast Of friends Block 4

Block 4 of Breast Of Friends was all ready for blanket stitching, when Pat was taken to hospital. While I was spending all those hours at the hospital visiting him, I took this block with me and completed the embroidery side of it.

I finally got the block boarders sown on this afternoon and the fabric was still hot from pressing, when this photo was taken.

My most favourite colour is green and so I wanted this to show with block 4. Very pleased on how the colour has been show.

Last night I was resting and while watching a DVD, I finished the hand binding on the 3rd placemat in the swap I am involved in.

Plus I finished off a present for the "12 Days Of Christmas" swap the Tuesday sewing group are doing. Yeah I know we're getting in early. Nothing like being organized.

I have found the last couple of months, if I use the first 2 weeks to get any swaps completed. I then have the last 2 weeks for my own projects. So far this has been working rather well.

Baseco Bag

I read a lot of blogs and either subscribe or follow so many, its like reading the newspaper some mornings while I eat my toast and drink my cup of tea.

One of the most enjoyable posts I have been reading is about the "Baseco Bag" that Dawn has designed and is selling on her Etsy site or through her blog. So many bags are popping up on blogs and in so many different colours too.

Someone beat me to it and paid for my PDF to be sent to me via my email. I was going to give Dawn the money on Tuesday when we met next.

Thank you to the lovely person who was kind enough to not only help the people of Baseco, but bring a much needed smile to my face after the scare I had with Pat.

I've finished mine and here my bag is.

I actually cut into a packet on Moda charm pack. eek Using the "Glace" by 3 Sisters. Very happy with the end result and there is so much room in the bag.

The flower stitchery is a little bit different to what Dawn had on the pattern. Still learning to satin stitch and so I left this part out as I need more practice.

This bag is the biggest item I have stippled and boy was it a challenge not to sew the gathered fabric as I whizzed around stippling.

This won't be the only bag I'll be making. I want to make a green one...... all green.

If you haven't popped over to Dawn's blog, please do so. It'll only cost you $4.00 and the pattern is emailed to you within 24 hours. You'll be helping a place in Manila who's people are so poor, that they live on a rubbish dump.

Dawn has proven this quote I use Your only limited by your imagination. She has stepped up to the plate and said I can do my part to help these people from my own home. I am very honored to call her my friend and help her by spreading the word.

Also to the person who paid for my pattern, your good deed is also rewarded. This coming Tuesday I am going to give Dawn $4.00 for another pattern and have this sent to my sister Debbie.

Kitchen Is Looking Swish

Boy is my kitchen starting to look swish with these swaps.

I'm kicking myself though, I forgot to take a photo of the second placemat in the swap I had made. So I can't show you that one.

This placemat was made by Sue and I love the whole chook look and more windmills.

Very country isn't it? Just what I wanted. Thanks Sue for making me this fabulous placemat.

Also I was in a swap for an oven mitt/ pot holder. I love pumpkins and look at the pot holder I was sent by Robyn. Been told by Robyn, not to leave it unemployed in the house as I have it hanging as a display on the kitchen wall. Its to be used.

This oven mitt was sent to Donna and she's using her's. Isn't she a good girl, not like me. lol I've got to be really good at making this style as I have lost count of how many I have made.

Also I make the arm area a little bit longer to protect the forearm. This tends to be the place I burn when I am using the oven.

Love swaps....... just so much fun.

Time For Tea

Growing up in the outback, we didn't get a lot of visitors and when we did, we always had cake on a plate with cups & saucers for drinking our tea from.

I have taken after my mum and I so love a cuppa in a china cup with the saucer underneath to rest a biscuit or a teaspoon on.

This table runner was started while Pat was sick before he went into hospital. Not much was done while he was in hospital and so yesterday and this morning, I finished it off.

I adapted "Time For Tea" by Michelle Ridgway's pattern from Handmade Vol 26 No. 5 to fit my kitchen table. The fabric was bought last November at the Craft & Quilting Fair.

So proud of how far my stitchery has come in just over 12 months. I loved the idea of mixing fabric and stitchery together in the table runner.

Close up of the table runner.

Not the best photo but I must say this has in my books been the best binding/corners I have done in any of my projects. Just so thrilled with the finished look.

Thrilled to think this is only my second table runner I have ever made. Even more thrilled to think I am not sending it to anyone and I will be able to enjoy this one myself. lol

I can't wait to show the girls tomorrow at sewing.

February's Hexi Swap

Finally I have found some time to pop up February's hexi swap. My theme has taken a life of its own....cats and I love it.

Barbara's hexi is just the most gorgeous and I love it so much. This has a cat down to pat, in my books. Climbing and getting into trouble. lol

Barb also sent me a tea bag holder for my handbag. I love this material.....very pretty.

Thanks Barb for your lovely swap.

Barb wanted red, green & white, but not in Christmas fabric.

An update on Pat. He came home last Tuesday after 5 days in hospital. We've been busy with daily doctor appointments and now that has finished, we have a weeks rest before they start up again.

I spent yesterday in my sewing room and I managed to make Keza's hexi for this month and the front of Raider 7's placemat for that swap. So I am happy. Iron is booked in for a sesson of cartoons from the 60's at 11 am. One thing about front loading washing machines, make washing easy when not at home. Pity the iron doesn't work that way too.
