Table Runner Swap

Without giving too much away, in case my swapper reads my blog.

The table runner I was making for a swap is finished. I'm happy with the colours and size. Table runner was a "spring theme" and so I used lots of spring colours.

We're given 2 months to make the swap and this would have to be the swap that took the longest. I usually have the completed swap sitting in my sewing room for a few weeks, but not this time. I even think when I'm not looking at the table runner........if I had another month, I'd make another one. Second one would have to be better than the first one surely???

Having only been sewing for 9 months I love joining in with these swaps as I get a chance to learn new forms of sewing.

I found the corners to be the hardest part of the whole swap. I couldn't get them "right", but if you don't look too hard... they don't stand out.

Taking the runner on sewing day next week to show the girls. Then I'll post it on the way home.

So hope my swapper isn't disappointed in my first table runner.

Bit Of This & That

I have been looking at my list on the side bar and I am going to try and not start any new projects for our house. Swaps are a bit different. Now that our house is back to 2 people after 4 weeks, I can get stuck into the sewing.

Busting to start "Breast of Friends" but I am waiting for Debbie to get back home.

Over on Mothers Cupboard she's having a sale. Now as I am letting you know about it, I get to go into a draw for a jelly roll. (drool factor) Pop over and have a look and also while your at it check out this little Aussie blog called Among The Gum Trees I actually spend Tuesday's at Dawn's home learning sewing skills and just having a great time.

Hexi Swap #3

September's hexi swap was off to Switzerland to Helene.

I'm so enjoying these little monthly swaps and I have in mind already something for October's swap.

Mine was a blend of birds and flowers.

This is Molly who has been sent to live in our household. The fine stitching is just stunning and I so hope at some stage to be as good as Helene. Also there was some Swiss chocolate, note the word "was". That was smooth as on the taste buds.

Thanks so much for being my September Hexi Swap.

Handmade

In this months "HandMade" Vol 27 No 4, my letter has been published on page 82.

After a fabulous Tupperware party at my place, where I scored $115 worth, I took my magazine to bed. Thought it was a good way to wind down and get ready to sleep.

But I was all hyped up again when I saw my letter and photo published.

So stoked about them thinking it was good enough to be included in the magazine.

Thanks so much Handmade.

About That Box

Yesterday I posted a photo about a purple box. I thought I'd tease you for a few hours.

Now the unveiling.

Debbie has been talking about making the "Breast Of Friends" quilt for a while. As we are so close and share just about everything in our lives, I said to Deb about us both making the quilt together. Deb jumped at the idea. Lots of emailing photos back and forth as Deb lives on a sheep station.

So while out yesterday I was given some helpful hints in fabrics, once I had said the colour scheme I was going with.

I have been touching, fondling and stroking what has to be the most beautiful looking and feeling fabric. There is enough fabric to start the first block.

This afternoon, I'll photo copy the pages from Deb's magazines.

I also saw some stunning little packs of fabric and I just had to have one.

Thinking a little table runner maybe from these fat 1/8th.

All spread out to show you how pretty they are. Check out the cats......... aren't they so cute???

Between Deb and the lovely lady at Riverlea Cottage, I have a better understanding of colour matching.

Still lots to learn and we are all learning for that matter everyday. So you know what I am going to say next.......

Hello what's This All About???

Today I went with my sister Deb to a quilting shop on Unley Road (in Adelaide) called Riverlea Cottage.

Well only two words can explain what this shop is like......"Fabric Porn" 100% "Fabric Porn".

I have been to the Woodside quilting shop, but this Riverlea Cottage is just sooooooooooo much better.

We spent just over an hour there and yes I bought some beautiful fabric, but its a secret until tomorrow.

We called into Rundall Mall and went to Lincraft and Spotlight. Today was a real fabric crawl, arrived home at 4.30.

At 5.30 I went into the sewing room to claim it back, as Pa flew home yesterday.

What took 3 hours to do??? Well lets take a look, shall we??

I emptied all my fabric out of the first 3 draws for Pa to use while he was visiting. So the draws needed to be put back to what they were.

But after seeing the way quilting shops store and present their fat 1/4's, I thought I'd like to do this too.

Amy gave me some of these wooden boxes from work and they are just what I wanted and needed to store my fabric.

Three hours later....................................

Oh yeah baby............ how cool is this draw with a wooden box inside?

Oh look more fabric. By the time I folded and sorted colours and packed. I have decided to catch up on some blogging.

I also managed to have a whole draw bare after sorting all the fabrics out. Now I have more of an idea of what I have for any projects down the track.

Bought this box for $2.00 at Spotlight today.
  • What is it for???
  • Is it empty??

Guess you'll have to wait until tomorrow sometime.

My Charms Arrived

What a day today was, I collected from craft group this morning my 2 packs of charms I ordered from the Fat Quarter Shop.

This is my first (but not my last) order over the internet.

I'm not sure what one I love more. eek Not sure what I am going to make from them either.

I just know I love them and it'll be a shame to break them up, at some stage in the future.

Josephine's Cushion

Finally Josephine's cushion is finished. I wanted it ready for her, as I am visiting her place this Friday night. I used my insert for the final fitting. I just need to pick one up for this cushion in the next 2 days.

I used a different colour green and shifted the flowers around, just so it was different to Ann's in a swap I did earlier this year. Josephine loves pink, purple & green.

One of the UFO's finished and moved to the completed list.

Place Mats

Now that I have my open toe darning foot, I am able to learn stippling. Figured the easiest thing to make and quilt using stippling, were place mats.

Bought this material for our place mats a couple of months ago.

Love the fruit theme.

You can see the stipple on the back easier. Still got a long way to go with getting the stipple correct. I have another 4 place mats to make. Here's hoping I am more relaxed and better skilled at the end of this project.

Hexi Swap # 2

I am so enjoying the monthly hexi swap over on the craft forum. August I learnt how to embroider Colonial Knots and practice my binding by hand.

My August hexi went to Scootinelly.

Hexi that Scootinelly sent to me is just stunning. The green backing material is so beautiful and I love the feel of it, when I run my finger tips over it.

This months hexi is off to Switzerland. I have made a start on Helene's, but you'll have to wait. lol

Stitch Here & There

The last week and a half Pat & I have been enjoying his dad's company while he is visiting us. Pa came over for Amy & Ben's engagement party. So I am not getting a lot of sewing done.

Getting lots of home cooked biscuits and boiled fruit cakes cooked...also showing Pa some of the sights of our beautiful city.

Yesterday we all went into the city by train. I talked them into letting me go to Spotlight and Lincraft by myself while they went and bought Pa some new shoes.

It was nice looking at fabrics and other goodies on my own. Getting lost in my thoughts as I looked and touched fabrics. One of the few times I have been able to do this as Pat goes everywhere with me.

Very happy with my little stash and I have ideas on what I am doing with it already. I also bought a metre of striped material for the monthly fat 1/8, though I am so tempted to keep it all and buy some more next fortnight. Going to think about this. Sure is stunning striped material. Also I bought some romantic material for the fat 1/4 swap on the craft forum as well.

The gerber and daisy material I bought at Lincraft and the middle 2 from Spotlight.

Last months fat1/4 swap on the forum as a ocean theme and I asked Dawn who was my swap partner for dolphins is possible.

Look at the most beautiful material I was given and a 1/2 metre too.

I want to make something for my step mum who is dolphin mad. Thinking a cushion would be nice. She's a beautiful lady who loves and cares for my dad.

Been doing a little bit of hand sewing on a new learning project. But that is another post for another day.
