Toby's Quilt

This morning I have sewn the front of the quilt together and now all that is left is to quilt the sandwiched material and the binding.

Then Toby's quilt is ready for when he comes down again in the next week or so.

Also going to make a little extra thing for Toby.

Tea & Ruffles.

Well what a drawn out saga this has been this evening. Up to the ruffle part of the cushion and its been an interesting learn curb.

Between help on the forum, a phone call to SewDeb and a few extra calls to Sue ...I have started the ruffle.

I must say now I know what I am doing, its pretty darn easy. My fingers are sore and once the cup of tea (bless Pat for making it) was cool enough to drink.... I shut the sewing room off for the night.

I can now rest and sleep comfortably knowing the ruffle has been understood and conquered. Mind you the cats better watch out I may practice in my sleep with their tails. lol

I'll do the ruffles in between cutting out material for a puppy quilt. Never ending is it???

Of Cushions & Quilts

Yesterday I managed to cut out the templates and material for the cushion ruffles in the afternoon.

After tea, I was able in a 3 hour block, to stitch together the front of my first "proper" cushion. I'm stoked with the result of it so far. mrgreen

Check it out.

Next is to add the pellon and quilt what I want. Thinking of doing a ditch stitch in the cream tone on tone. This should help the stars to stand out more so.

Ruffle will be the same yellow floral material and the backing with be a light yellow home spun colour.

Finished off the cats "girlie" quilt and so happy with how it has come up. This one is sitting on the lounge.

We had friends staying for a few days and they loved the quilts. So I am going to make 2 quilts for their little mini puppy.

I even learnt how to do the binding and found it to be a relaxing little job in front on the TV in the evening. I couldn't work the binding out when I made the first cat quilt and so I just sewed it around in one trip with the sewing machine. Very happy that I had another crack at learning binding, as it is a tidier finish.

Back of their quilt is pretty small yellow flowers.

Have you seen my "Mother's day" give away? The winner will be drawn this Monday, so it's 3 sleeps. If you want to go in the draw there is still time.

More Ricrac

In the mail today I received a RAOK. Just so thrilled with what I was sent. Thank you so much who ever was so kind and thoughtful with this gift.

Look at all the foster ricrac I get to look after mrgreen and add to my ricrac family. There is some teenager ricrac with flecks of colour in the weave. Mum & Dad ricrac spiffied up in their gilttery evening wear and some disco gilrie ricrac. I shall care and look after the new foster ricrac that has come to live and hopefully mulitply in my ricrac tin (in mean house) lol The card is hand made too. Once again thanks to the lovely RAOK person.

Jumping in the deep end here people. My first real cushion is about to start in my sewing room. I have joined up for a cushion swap on the forum and I think I need to make 1 first before I start the swap cushion.

Five colours in the cushion and I would have to say this will be like the bags. Bit of a challange and after making a trial one for me, I'll do just fine for the swap.

I was going to post a photo of the choice I made, then thought differently. I'm going to post as I go along and tease you all. wink

As I am between swaps I started another cat quilt for the lounge suite. Rebel loves the quilt and sleeps on it heaps. Figured another quilt was needed for the lounge as I just love confused moving the other quilt from my chair. Much to Rebel's disgust that he has been disturbed.

Mother's Day Give Away

I hope you all had a lovely Easter. We did here.

Next on the list of celebrations is Mother's Day and I have a give away to celebrate all our mums.

This is my second give away, but the first time I have actually made something for a prize.

As you know I have only been sewing 4 months. I am hoping the winner will like and enjoy using this prize. Feeling confident in my sewing, to be able to off something I have made myself.

My mum died in 1994, she never got to see me sew. In honour of my mum and all those mum's who aren't with us, I made these gifts for a mum, to either keep or to give to her mum.

Three potpourri sachets for your clothes draws and a needle book to keep your needles safe and sound.

Inside the needle book.

To win these four items all you need to do is leave a comment and to get a second bite at the prize, post a link on your blog and let me know, so I can check. mrgreen Easy as.......

I'll put all names into a hat and Pat will draw out the winner on the 27th and it'll be posted to the winner on the 28th April. That way its in the winner's hands by Mother's Day.

Good luck cool

For Betty & Myself

Yesterday I made a needle book for my step mum Betty and today I made one for myself. I have one almost finished for something else (maybe a prize wink ???) and thought I'd like one for my sewing and thought Betty might as well.

Front of the needle books. Can you guess which one is mine?? rolleyes Betty's is for Mother's Day.

Inside the booklets, mine already has needles in there. Now my sewing needles are safe and sound, I was wondering what I could put them in and found this pattern in

Country Threads : Vol 9 : #4 titled Victorian Needle Book.

Learning how to bind the books by hand sewing. Pretty pleased with the end results.

Wall Hanger Finished

Finished or I think it is. Still tossing up with the idea of quilting down and across between the blocks on the tone on tone material.

These caring heart blocks were sent to me from the Online Craft/ Sewing Forum. I had them tucked away until I was ready to make something suitable from them.

Wanting to feel confident enough to honour the spirit these caring hearts were sent to me in, I feel I have done this.

Now when I am in my sewing room, I can look at my wall hanger and feel the hugs and warmth these hearts were sent to me.

Hold The Press........

Mother's Day give away soon to be announced.

Even though this will be my second give away, I am busy with my first "prize" of something I have made. Stay tuned the items are nearly finished.

My UFO's

I've been having a lovely time in my sewing room.

Busy finishing off a couple of UFO's....

  • coathanger swap
  • bag/tote swap
  • Mother's Day give away
  • chicken oven mitts
  • Caring Hearts wall hanger
Lots happening and I am just enjoying the cooler weather and gentle breeze that comes through my window.

Thought I'd actually make something to give away, just before Mother's Day. Must be feeling confident enough with my sewing to actually offer someone a prize. Got such a buzz out of my first give away.

Keep your eyes open for that one down the track, until than check this blog out.....Don't Look Now this is one very talented lady who has blown me away with her sewing. Kellie has a give away on her blog as well. Check it out.
