My Own Tote Bag

I was sent this Egyptian print material very early of this year and its been sitting in the fabric draw, waiting for me to make good use of it.

Straight away I thought I could use it for a tote bag, as I don't have a large one. I thought it would be good when traveling to keep Pat's medication in or a days shopping.

Back awhile I found a lovely material that I thought would go nice with the fabric. Today I started my tote bag.

Front and back cut out and on the floor to see how they look.

Want to know a secret??? I'm not using a pattern at all. eek

Looking for the tote size I wanted and I just didn't have a pattern. My sister-in-law gave me a pattern, but I was having problems understanding it. So I figured.... I'd go it alone.

Front and back look the same, more wide than deep as I'm not that tall. I have pinned some of the leaf material across the top and found I like it there.

A button hole is put at one end of each of the strips for the rope tie to be threaded through. Thought of this while I was pinning the strip to the top of the bag. So really the bag is taking shape as I go.

Next on the list is to make and sew pockets to the inside lining. Never made a pocket for a bag before.........should be fun.

The most exciting thing about this project is, it's stamped with my tastes and ideas. It'll be a one off chance of seeing this one down the shops or in the back of a stranger's car.

I want to buy some pellon 640 to give extra softness and thickness to the bag. That I hope to buy next week.

Stay tuned.........

Toby's Toy Bag

Finally I have Toby's toy bag just about finished and all it needs is the draw string. I did the embroidery yesterday and this afternoon I sewed the item together.

My first real embroidery project and have used left over material to make the bag.

Left over material from Toby's quilt was used for the back of the bag.

Lining is from when I made Amy & Ben's dog grooming bag.

When Toby visits again next month, he'll have a reusable bag to take his toys with him in the car. Talk about a spoilt little dog and he's not even mine eek

I Want A Cuddle

Can I have a cuddle Nanna????? Pretty please huh???? lol

I was trying to sew a patch onto Pat's jeans last night when Millie wanted a cuddle after tea was all done and dusted.

So glad I was able to juggle both and get the jeans fixed and cuddle the Grand-Kitty as well.

Chook Oven Mitts

Oven mitts are finally finished...yay. razz Patrick wanted me to make a pair of oven mitts that fit his hands. Both mitts had been sitting in my UFO draw waiting to be sewn together.

I couldn't resist making the mitts with some of my chook material.

All ready for use.

I have made quite a few of these mitts now. Each time I have improved the look and sewing of them.

In the photo you can see how I have finished off the mitt with binding, having learnt how this is done. Where as the floral finishing off wasn't as tidy.

I still need to make another set, so there is a spare pair when one set is in the wash.

Next pair I am hoping to make them a bit more snazzy looking.

Birthday Gift

I've been making another friendship bag last night and this afternoon. Just about stopped for today.

Its my sister's birthday this Wednesday and I thought I'd make her a bag for storing some of her goodies in.

We were going to catch up with her this week, but due to them painting a room in their home we can't go. The paint fumes will not do Pat's asthma any good. So Deb will have to wait a short while before she gets her present.

I can show her present to you, as their computer is in sick bay for a few weeks.

Deb loves red and floral material, so I have combined both together. I chose a red floral material for the inside lining.

On the outside a mixture of floral materials with complementary tone on tone colours. To make Deb's different to mine, I have sewn lace around the boarder instead of ricrac. Finishing off with a red & white flower with a red/pink button with a flower inside the glass on the button.

All I need to do now is embroider the sides together and sew on that purple love heart button.

Now I can spend some time thinking about the cushion swap I have signed up for and also the monthly embroidery block I joined for the year.

Always something happening in the sewing room. lol

After a relaxing afternoon in the sewing room, I finished off my friendship bag. Very happy with the end result, though I do need to work on sewing the braid to material a bit more.

Storing my cutting items in it, as I tend to have to hunt them down around my sewing room.

It was so much fun making it, I'm going to make another one..... but a bit different. mrgreen This one will be for a birthday present.

Friendship Bag

I was visiting the Salvation Army thrift shop around the corner the other day and came across 2 old (top condition) Handmade magazines.

Inside a Dec 2004 magazine Vol 21 No7

I came across a lovely bag with a difference.

The friendship bag is more like a folder than a bag. Great for storing all sorts of goodies inside.

I haven't quite finished the bag, but I just wanted to show you what I have completed so far.

First time I have ever done prairie points. The squares are 4.5 inches in size and where I had that in scrap material , I used that up.

Pencil was placed on top to give you a visual of the size of the bag.

All that is left to do is sew up the sides by hand using an embroidery stitch and decorate the top with ricrac and anything else I want.

I think these would make great stocking fillers with bath goodies inside or a little girl who loves dolls and has lots of clothes for her little friend. Ideas are limitless.

Tidy Tin

Not sure how you keep and store your ricrac, but mine goes into a tin. I roll it up to try and keep it tidy in the tin.

Some of the ricrac I have rolled up and looking tidy. This doesn't always stay this way and so I am forever having to tidy it all.

So I came up with the following idea and all you need is those pieces of cardboard that are inside those fat quarters you buy, a couple of small rubber bands.

Cut the cardboard in half and you then have 2 pieces of cardboard.

Roll your ricrac around each piece of cardboard and place a rubber band at each end to keep it tidy and secure.

Then the cards can be kept in order by colour or size of the ricrac. You can also use this idea with your cuttings of lace and ribbon.

This also helps to reduce wastage and recycles.

Our friends Pete & Liz and the fur kid "Toby" have come and stayed for a couple of days. We both have gifts for each other.

Front of little "Toby's" quilt I made for him.

Back of his quilt.

He's such a lovely little dog and so well behaved.

Pete has such a gifted talent when it comes to wood. He made this wall scroll for me and it hangs in our lounge room.

They are still visiting....... so I am off again....

Bag Swap

I love taking part in swaps over on the Craft Forum. I have a chance to see what other people make and pick up some wonderful ideas from what they make.

Today is opening day for the bag swap.

I love what Karen made for me and she put a lot of thought into the tote bag.

Ducks..... oodles of ducks...stacks of ducks...... I love it. Pocket on the outside. Even the little card had a cute little fluffy duck on it. Love the bag and I got to use it today while out shopping.

Inside of the bag there are two more pockets and the lining material reminds me a reeds in a creek, that ducks love to swim in.

Thank you so much Karen.

Now my bag to Karen.

Heaps different to what the other 3 bags I have made in the past. Lots more colour and action happening on it. Front of the bag.......... the pink rectangle links in with the back of the bag.

Back of the bag.

This was a very exciting swap and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Finished Cushion

Today I bought a size 18 inch cushion filler for my first proper cushion I made.

Finished item ready for use in our lounge room.

Back of the cushion.

Haven't I come far mrgreen since December of last year? On the right is one of my first cushion covers I made for an old woolen cover I wanted to replace. That one was squares sewn together and stitched three appliques to the front.

I am planning to make more cushions in the future, all kinds of different styles.
