Ricrac, Lace & Material.

Nothing like a few $$ in the old purse and a trip to Spotlight to remove those few $$$$ in that old purse.

A side of my stash that needed a bit of attention was the lace side and today I paid (pardon the pun) some attention to this.

Ooooohhhh ricrac, baby ricrac with mummy & daddy ricrac to the right. Even saw some Grand Pappy ricrac, but I resisted bringing the whole family home. After I had paid for everything, I was shown the teenager ricrac, all decorated with silver threads woven through it. That is on the hit list for other trips to Spotty.

I was facinated by the braid lace and thought this would look pretty on bags, cushions and other things. Some lace as well.

I was given $10 and spent that on material.

Quarter of teapot material.

Half a meter of Paisley, my first peice.

So on a whole, the trip was very rewarding.

Must resist going to Spotty for 14 days now.

Loo Roll Holder Finished

All finished and hanging in the "little house". One good thing about the size, it holds 6 rolls not 3.

Until I get used to it, I'll be like the fella on the roofing "Colour Bond" add........ sitting and dreaming about how good it looks.

I'm So Happy

This news about the homespun material couldn't wait until tomorrow. Just had to tell you all today.

An hour ago I rang Spotlight regarding the way my meter of material was cut. I was encouraged to bring it back and they'd have a look at it.

Well, I am just so pleased with the result of the trip back.

I went in and spoke to a lovely lady who listened to what I had to say and answered my questions. Then she said I could have new piece of fabric.

Unrolling what was left on the bolt, she said I could have the whole lot for my troubles and driving back to the shop.

I'm so happy.

The replacement piece turned out to be 2 meters in length.

As I thanked her for the bonus material, she said she was pretty sure I'd have no problem in finding uses for all the material. Then blow me down, I was allowed to have the meter of material I had originally paid as well.

So it pays to speak in a nice clam voice when telling anyone "why your not happy" when returning a product. Sometime is really pays off.

Two thumbs up to "Spotlight" for their customer service in helping me out.

The Beautiful & The Annoying

This arrived in the post the other day and it's it just beautiful? A RAK was sent to me and I have no idea who it was from.

Just love the idea of the pin cushion at eye level when removing pins from fabric while sewing. Also the threads in bin will be much better than on the floor.

Thanks so much to the lovely and kind person who sent me this RAK.

Now on a totally different subject. The annoying.

Check out the photo below.

Just over 2 inches out with their cutting at "Spotlight" yesterday. I'm doing my blog as I wait for the shop to open. As I am going to ring them and have a chat about their cutting.

This is very frustrating as I would loose a good amount if I was to cut and straighten this up. Its almost from the start of the fabric and as it goes down, it gets wider.

I'll let you know the out come tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow.....

Today is the last day you can enter the give away I am having. The two people who win will be announced tomorrow morning. You can find the give away here

I Am So Impressed.

I am so impressed with my piecing and sewing. I feel so happy and have this over powering feeling busting from with in.

Have you ever had this feeling??? I am sure you have....great isn't it??

All that is left to do is pop the pellon on the back, line it and finish off those trimmings on it. When I showed Pat, he said it'll have to be a pretty big toilet roll, to fill it.

I am sure once the bits and pieces are done and the last bits of sewing completed...it'll not look so big.

I have to wait until next Tuesday to buy some homespun for the lining. So I'll move on to other items around the house like.......housework, other sewing, embroidery monthly swap I am doing this year, sewing, oh yeah housework.

What is with housework anyway????

Piecing Blocks

This afternoon I have been trimming and piecing blocks together. I have completed 3 blocks so far and thought I'd show you how good or bad I am doing.

This is the first block I did. Not quite perfect, but you show me someone who on their first piece got it just right. Actually...don't show me..... my back hurts too much from leaning over the table to have someone show me up.

By the third block I am getting the centre points better and closer to having the tips touching.

There are 4 more of these to be made and I am hoping as each one is made, I improve. Time will tell.

What I have learnt from this is....... if I don't sew this good and the toilet rolls fall into the loo...... I'm going to be peed off.......LOL

Also if you haven't done it yet.....my give away is coming to an end soon. Got to be in it to win it.

Lucky By Nature??

I think I am lucky by nature...... well today I am.

The mailman has been so kind to me today, no bills. But a gift and a prize was delivered to me instead.

Back earlier this year I was in a "paper bag swap". My swap for me must have been lost in the mail and Meredith become my swap angel. I had no idea this was happen.

How stunning is this table runner??? I love the colours, it's so beautiful and I am so overwhelmed with Meredith's beauty and kindness from her heart.

Thank you so much "Swap Angel"...... your gift is so treasured already.

Also in the mail came this book that I had won. Another one....you say!!!!

I saw my name in the magazine last month and thought...wow wee...... naa couldn't be me......did I enter this comp as well??? Maybe someone else has the same initials as me in the same burb??

So need to keep track of the competitions I enter in the future.

Purr-Fect Quilt

All done and finished. After no joke, the whole morning in the sewing room, doing the binding ....the cat's little quilt is finished.

Its my first ever quilt I have made and like most of my projects when learning something new , I start off with a small item.

Close up of the front. I did find the binding of the corners tricky and I am sure if I was shown how to do it in person, it wouldn't have taken as long for me to do.

Back of the quilt....looking very big cat like.

A purr-fect quilt. Pat's Siamese, Harley Davidson and Millie our grand-kitty giving it their paw of approval.

What did I learn while making the quilt?

Never promise your cat a quilt and then not get it finished on the promised day....... cos' when you turn your back in the sewing room....... the cat is sitting on the quilt, while still connected to the sewing machine!!

But seriously, I am so proud of my first quilt. I took my time and I will be making more quilts of different sizes as my skills improve.

New Loo Paper Holder

I really like this toilet paper holder and I thought it would be a great way to learn a bit more about quilting. Nice small project that shouldn't be too over whelming for me.

The lacy loo paper holder we have at the moment is about 20 years old and looks very tired.

Also I thought something completely different would be nice too.

I have picked these 3 colours to make it.

Took me a while to find material that went together from my stash. I didn't want to make another trip to Spotlight as I was only there the other day.

Don't forget to enter my "give away" it closes on the 30th of this month. Only 10 days left to get your entry in.

Oh I Am So Lucky

Oh I am so lucky, I found this mistake before it was finished.

The cat quilt was coming at a lovely leisurely pace. Decided the pellon wasn't thick enough for my fur kids and went with some wadding.

I then started to pin the layers together and found I had run out of safety pins. Went and bought a packet and then completed pinning the quilt.

Then as I checked all the places I was to sew, marking the instructions making sure all was completed..... I couldn't find the 3rd panel......

I hadn't sewn the last 2 panels to the sides. This also explains why I have those 2 wide sides of wading and backing, doing nothing as it's stuck to the kitchen table.

So now I need to unpin all the quilt, sew on the last boarders, pin it again and then with any luck quilt and do the binding.

Then I think it'll be ready for the cats to curl up on with a saucer of milk and a good DVD.

Don't forget to tell me what makes you happy. I have 2 prizes up for grabs.

Give Away # 1

I'm having a give away to celebrate.... lets see ..... 2 of the many items I bought yesterday at "Spotlight" that just made me so happy.

Yes I am excited and pleased with my little 20% off bargains at Spotlight.

Before we get to the 2 prizes up for grabs. Lets look at 2 of the bargains I bought that got me all excited and revved up about.

A colour wheel as I don't want to be a dill pickle down the track and put the wrong colours together. I was going to wait until my next Lincraft redeeming voucher........but that could take forever.

Second "what makes me happy" is this material.

How stunning is it??

Think of the items that could be made by take a rotary cutter too it. All those little squares for bags and what ever else I can create. I bought a meter of this baby.

Also bought some other beautiful material as well. Floral & some leopard for the backing of the cat's quilt.

Now the give away.

I want to share some of this lovely material with 2 lucky people. I have cut both pieces 18 in X 19 in. Pretty sure that is what it was.

Okay first prize is a bit bigger than second prize. I also bought the novelty buttons yesterday as well.

Second prize has smaller lace and ribbon.

You can pretty well see what is in each prize.

Now how do you enter....glad you asked.

All entries will be published on the comments area on my blog.

In 25 words or less, tell me (and everyone who reads them) what makes you happy. As you can tell....nothing overly flash makes me very happy. I am a very easily excitable person and love to share this.

To pick the winners.

I'll be printing all entries out......Pat will read them and pick 2 winners. He won't have anyone's names linked to the entries. This makes it fair and so start thinking and entering.

Draw date is 30th March and will be posted to you on the 31st.

I'll announce the winners on my blog and I'll get you then to send me your postal address via the comment page and this will not be published.

Have fun as I know I will be at my end.

Winning entries will be final.

My First Quilt

Making my first quilt. Not for myself or Pat, but for our cats.

They can then sleep on this and not the lounge suit. Easy to wash as well. Oh I hope it will be.

I haven't any background or backing material yet. I'll pick some up on Tuesday. Going to go for a light background with large spots in it.

Back to working on the swap bag/tote until Tuesday next week.

Just out of interest, so far I haven't changed any of the pattern and have stuck to the instructions.

Of Pins & Puppies

I was so excited to show you my lovely pin cushion from Sandy, I forgot to show you the one I made for Linda in the mini pin cushion swap.

After making "wobby" for myself as my first project I wanted this pin cushion to be special. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and Linda said she loves it.

Made a dog grooming bag for Amy & Ben. It was really cute when I told them about me making something for their 2 dogs. Ben said to Amy straight away, "He'd tie it to the dogs bed, so they can't rip it to bits". I thought that was so sweet of Ben.

Front of bag.

The pattern is from the "handmade" magazine, Vol 26 #7. Once again I didn't follow the pattern exactly. I didn't want to do the embroidery I wanted the material I had bought special for the bag.

Back of Bag

Instead of buying some tie rope for the draw string part. Pat had a pair of long shoe laces and the colour suited it, spot on.

I am going to make one for our cats as well. Their brushes are hanging on the laundry taps in a stupidmarket bag. I think a bright bag will be better.

Pin Cushion Swap Arrived

How special is this pin cushion swap???

My swaper has sent to me the most beautiful pin cushion, thank you so much Sandy. I love it.

Its a lovely size with hand embroidery.

Check the back out too. Just such a lovely material, photo doesn't do this justice at all.

Came wrapped in some pansy material.

Swaps are such good fun as I am learning so many new ideas and I just love the whole swap projects over on the craft forum.

Until next time....hoo roo

Your Only Limited By Your Imagination.

My sign off at the end of each posting Your only limited by your imagination, I use this sign off as I believe this is very true.

Take my bag I finished off today at craft morning at my friend's home. It's the same pattern as the butterfly bag which itself isn't exactly the same as what was in the magazine I took the pattern from.

This morning I sewed up the opening in the lining and also added the 5 flowers to break up the pink. Now its ready for me to use.

Also finished the journal I want to use for myself.

This one is completely different to the swap journal I took part in and we get to open on the 1st of April. I want to keep a record of what I make with, date & who its for. I can also keep any notes next to the photo as well.

Those 2 Suffolk puffs are the first I have ever seen or made. Another first for me. I seem to have a lot of firsts, don't I????

Also today we took the butterfly bag out to the lady it was made for. She was so thrilled with her bag. Told me off for making it for her, but she didn't give it back either....lol

Anyway I have had an absolutely FAB TAB of a day and remember.....
